Greenhouse: Coturnix Aviary
After approximately 75 hours and more pieces than a jigsaw puzzle, spread out over a time period of 4 months (I could only work as time, physical health and money allowed), this Coturnix quail covey were finally able to move into their mini-greenhouse/aviary!
Note: There is 1/4″ hardware cloth on the ground; it runs up the sides (overlapping the bottom of the walls and windows by 4 to 6 inches). Under the shavings, there is 3+ inches of topsoil on top of the wire on the ground. Any/all open areas (including windows that open) are also covered with 1/4 inch hardware cloth.
Finally, the rechargeable intake fan that resides under the step is not pictured in the video.
Funky Music Scovy
I love how her tail syncs with the music at the end.
Miss Buttons Had Babies
II had never seen newborn bunny rabbits until Miss Buttons had her first litter. I could hardly believe how much fur she pulled from her own body to build a soft, warm nest. She added straw where it was needed to help keep her babies warm and safe.
It was fascinating to watch her natural instincts at work. It’s amazing how much nature-based learning can happen right in a small backyard homestead.
