Sometimes Research Means Asking Someone Who Knows

One of the topics I’m researching for the next Sunny Stella® storybook is ice fishing.

I started by asking on X if anyone had experience with ice fishing. Someone responded, and that gave me the chance to ask a more specific question about the kinds of shelters people use while they are out on the ice. That exchange helped me better understand a detail I will need when I begin writing that part of the story.

Learning from others is one of my favorite parts of writing. Research is not always sitting at a computer looking things up. Sometimes it means finding someone with real experience and simply asking.
